FAQs

Nevis is an almost circular island formed originally by volcanic action. Nevis Peak has been silent for hundreds of years but the dramatic landscape created by the volcano remains. Nevis is an example of the unspoiled Caribbean.

Amaranth is located on a gradually sloped lot on the lower part of Nevis Peak adjacent to the Golden Rock Plantation Inn. The villa looks south with a lovely view of the Caribbean with Montserrat and Redondo in the distance.

The gardens were expertly planted over 50 years and are extraordinary. There is a small trail on the west side that is like a walk in the rain forest; and it is magical for children (and their parents). Monkeys have been known to visit as the house is beside their path down from the mountain.

The house has 2 bedrooms, each with its own attached full bathroom. The bedrooms open directly to the outside, which affords separation and privacy. However, parents would be close enough to their children in the other room to feel comfortable and accessible.

The house is cared for day to day by experienced and charming staff. A housekeeper comes 4 mornings a week and gardeners are there 5 days a week.

It has a large airy living room, a formal dining room, a large covered outside dining terrace and a kitchen. The sofa in the living room is a pull out couch so 2 additional people can be accommodated. If you chose that option, they would have their own separate adjacent bathroom.

The pool is separate from the house and surrounded by lush vegetation. The house is pretty, comfy and very private as it is surrounded by beautiful gardens.

Accommodations

The house was built in the 1960's and has superb gardens. There is a gate that allows your car to be parked inside the fence if desired. Stone steps lead uphill to the house which is West Indian in design. It has mahogany windows and terra cotta tile floors.

It is furnished with comfortable plantation and antique furniture. Outside, there is a charming covered patio for reading and eating. The house sleeps up to 6 people. There are 2 bedrooms, each of which is 18 by 16 feet with an attached bathroom. One bedroom has a large 4-poster bed while the other has 2 single beds. The bedrooms are private, opening directly from a covered terrace. There is a third bathroom off the living room. The living room is equipped with a pull out couch where 2 additional people can sleep.

The living room is 28 by 16 feet, the separate dining room 19 by 11 feet. Both have wooden beamed ceilings. The kitchen is 13 by 11 feet. It is well equipped so you can easily prepare meals if you wish. Amaranth is approximately 10 minutes from a food store.

There is internet service. There are laundry facilities in the house and our housekeeper is available to assist. The pool is 18 by 12 feet and is privately situated behind thick tropical hedges. There are many spots to be with friends or to escape for a quiet moment. Our hope is that you will find it as relaxing and beautiful as we do.

We have a housekeeper and a gardener who are exceptionally nice and will assist in making your stay as enjoyable as possible.

Amaranth is at the foot of the driveway into Golden Rock Plantation Inn, an exclusive and charming small hotel developed from 200 year old sugar plantation buildings. Golden Rock has an international clientele and is situated at a high elevation on Nevis Peak, which rises to more than 3,000 feet. Proximity to the hotel allows guests at Amaranth to expand beyond the house and to walk easily to the hotel for lunch, dinner or drinks. The hotel has been dramatically and romantically renovated and has wonderful food.

Amaranth is approximately 25 minutes by car from Charlestown, the principal town on Nevis, where the ferry from St Kitts docks and a similar distance from Newcastle airport. It is a 10 minute drive from the Gingerland food store. The island's many lovely and diverse beaches and beach bars are easily visited by guests by car. There are many adventures close at hand.
